The following is designed to help parents and players understand the differences between the various divisions in Moorpark Little League. Prior to registering, it is critical to understand what your child’s “league age” is in order to complete the registration process.

All divisions are open to both boys and girls. The primary goals of each division are to:

• Provide children with the appropriate level of instruction for their division and skill level;
• Allow them to experience the value of teamwork;
• Prepare them for the next division or level of play;
• Give them the opportunity to play baseball with their peers and friends

A primary goal of the competitive divisions in Moorpark Little League is to create fair and balanced teams. To achieve this, all players who intend to play in the Machine Pitch, Farm, AA, AAA, Majors, or Juniors divisions must attend player evaluations (early January). Following evaluations, team managers will draft players based on their performance at evaluations and prior experience.

Division placement is based on league age. While some players may be able to "play up" in a division (if qualified), players CANNOT play down a division.

Division Details

Tee Ball Division

• For players league age 4-6 who are typically playing in their first or second year of organized baseball.
• In Tee Ball, players hit off a batting tee.
• Tee Ball is a non-competitive division. Neither scoring nor standings are kept, and there are no umpires.

Machine Pitch Division

• For players league age 5-7 (players who are league age 5 must have completed one season of Tee Ball prior to playing Machine Pitch)
• As the name suggests, the ball is pitched by a machine that is facilitated by one of the coaches
• New for 2025, Machine Pitch is Moorpark Little League's entry-level competitive division. Scoring and standings are kept, and umpires officiate the game.

Farm Division

• For players league age 7-8.
• In Farm, players are introduced to player-pitch baseball, with pitchers throwing from 40 feet.

AA Division

• For players league age 9-10.
• While some communities have one "minors" division with a larger age range, Moorpark Little League separates its AA and AAA divisions with a focus on player development. For example, a player who is league age 9 may have a greater opportunity to develop as a pitcher in the AA division than he/she would in the AAA division.
• Families with a league age 10 player who don’t want their child to be considered for AAA should indicate their preference to remain in AA at the time of registration. It is likely that some league age 10 players who try-out for AAA will remain in AA.

AAA Division

• For players league age 10-11.
• Families with a league age 11 player who don’t want their child to be considered for Majors should indicate their preference to remain in AAA at the time of registration. It is likely that some league age 11 players who try-out for Majors will remain in AAA..

Majors Division

• For players league age 11-12.
• Majors is also known as the Little League Baseball Division.

Juniors Division

• For players league age 13-14.
• Juniors is played using a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches.

Division Comparison

Play-Ups

It is the intent of Moorpark Little League that players compete alongside their peers; that is, players who are the same league age as those outlined in the division descriptions above. Players who wish to “play-up a division” must:

1. Request to do so by notifying Moorpark Little League at [email protected] prior to player evaluations.
2. Participate in player evaluations for both their “assigned division” as well as the division they are trying to play up to.

Moorpark Little League will update its policy on determining which players will play up prior to player evaluations in January.

Registration Costs

Registration costs for Moorpark Little League cover roughly half the cost per player it takes to facilitate a season. The rest of the costs are paid through snack bar sales, sponsorships, and fundraising.

To help with the registration costs, Moorpark Little Leagues offers interest free payment plans through registration as well as a family cap of $550 per family with more than one child in Moorpark Little League. This discount is manually applied to the payment plan after the completion of registration.
